This table started as a single slab of black walnut with a live edge we didn't want to lose. The idea was to let the stain do what carving usually does — build a wave out of color instead of cutting one out of wood. Each layer of stain was mixed and hand-applied in curved passes, working light to dark, until the crest and the foam-white edge came out of the grain instead of sitting on top of it. Built for a family that wanted a dining table with a story to tell every time someone new sat down at it.
